Formula for Converting AWG to Inches
To convert an AWG wire size to inches, use the conversion below:
AWG no = 0.005 inch x 92(36-n)/39, where ‘n’ represents the AWG number.
For example:
AWG 5 = 0.005 x 92(36-5)/39 = 0.005 x 92 (31)/39 = 0.005 x 36.38811 = 0.181941 inches.
Formula for Converting AWG to mm
To convert AWG size to mm, use the formula below:
AWG no = 0.127 mm x 92(36-n)/39, where ‘n’ is the AWG number.
Using AWG wire size 5 as an example, the equivalent diameter in mm is:
= 0.127 x 92(36-5)/39 = 0.127 x 36.38811 = 4.621 mm
So, to find the equivalent wire size in mm for AWG no. 5
=0.127 x 92(36-5)/39= =0.127 x 36.38811 =4.621 mm
